We had the pleasure of interviewing Anna Reißfelder to gain a deeper insight into daily work and corporate culture. Anna Reißfelder is a sales manager.

Anna told us what she did before joining Doctolib, what it was like to change her career, what daily work in sales looks like and how diverse the development opportunities are.

A career in tech sales is becoming increasingly attractive for various reasons. It offers flexibility at work, the opportunity to continuously learn and develop, and last but not least, high earning potential. In addition, the software and Internet industry is booming and is undoubtedly one of the leading economic sectors of the future.

Doctolib, with one of the largest sales teams in the German healthcare market, is one of the fastest growing companies in the eHealth tech sector. Doctolib is growing rapidly and is looking for motivated new sales talent across Germany to join their mission of improving healthcare in partnership with medical professionals. Together, they want to create the largest community of healthcare providers and build the practices and hospitals of the future.

For this reason, we have come together to offer talented career and career changers a new professional challenge at Doctolib after completing their training in tech sales.

As part of our collaboration, our selected applicants go through several interviews and are then hired by a leading technology company such as Doctolib. No previous sales experience or special degrees are required as they are trained on-the-job by us after they are hired. Rather, qualities such as empathy, willingness to develop and learn, trustworthiness and resilience are required.

What did you do before you joined Doctolib and why did you decide to sell at Doctolib?

The position at Doctolib is my first real job, I previously studied (Intercultural Communication & Business Administration).

I chose the position because I really enjoy working in sales and the company is still very young, so you can still help shape it and have good career opportunities. I also really like the company's vision. It makes me feel good to contribute to improving healthcare.

What was the start of working life and what were the biggest changes/hurdles compared to university?

It was definitely a big change, but I quickly got used to it. The biggest change is that you have a regular everyday life and less freedom in terms of private life. But you really have the weekend off because you don't have to study for university. A big (positive) change is, of course, the regular salary that comes into the account every month)

What does a typical working day look like for you?

Sales at Doctolib basically has three major tasks that make up a classic working day: Hunting, Closing and Farming.

When hunting, you have to make regular appointments with doctors. These dates are the start of the sales cycle and therefore the basis for contracts and the bonus. At closing, you win over the practices, which is then accompanied by a recruitment and training appointment. The calendar is therefore set according to the wishes of the practice and, in the next step, the entire practice staff is trained in how to use it. This is followed by farming, where you have to ensure that a practice is satisfied after the start. You are also the first point of contact for questions or problems that arise in the first few weeks.

How has your image of sales changed compared to the time before you worked at Doctolib?

I now know what a tough job sales is in general. Especially in KPI-driven companies such as Doctolib. You are largely responsible for the success of the company, which of course creates a certain amount of pressure. Sales doesn't just mean “selling”, but a lot of diligence, stamina and acquiring a thick coat, as you are usually not welcomed with open arms.

What onboarding and training does Doctolib offer?

A very structured and highly organized onboarding is offered. After the first 4 days of getting to know the company and all other New Joiners, the Sales Academy follows. Here you learn everything you need to know to work in sales at Doctolib. However, these are not purely frontal lessons, but you are thrown into deep water quite quickly and are allowed to contact the first practices yourself.

What are the development opportunities at Doctolib?

Since the company is still quite young and growing strongly, it has very good opportunities for development and advancement. Specifically in sales, for example, you quickly have the opportunity to be promoted to mentor. Here, you are the first point of contact for a New Joiner. You also have the option to change positions internally.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The contact with other people, that it is very varied (every appointment is different, you never know what to expect), that you travel a lot, that you don't just sit at a desk for 40 hours a week, the work in a team, the sales calls and the fact that you work very independently and have a lot of responsibility.

What are important/central skills to get off to a good start in your professional life as a sales manager and to be successful?

Perseverance, self-confidence, tenacity, a thick coat, persuasion, friendly appearance and excellent communication skills.

What is special about sales at Doctolib compared to other companies?

Doctolib is a super young company, with young, great and relaxed teammates. Everyone wants to make a difference. It is also special that Doctolib offers an innovative and sustainable product that has hardly been available on the market so far.

What tip do you have for aspiring sales talent?

You shouldn't take anything personally and not be too sensitive in general. Otherwise, you quickly lose stamina and fun. You have to be aware that nothing is being given to you, but that you have to fight hard for your successes. But you will then also be adequately rewarded for this.:)
